Serious offences (e.g., murder, rape, theft) are cognizable. The police must register an FIR and investigate. Non-cognizable offences need court permission to investigate.
चोरी या मारपीट जैसे cognizable अपराध में पुलिस तुरंत FIR दर्ज कर कार्रवाई कर सकती है।
